Whispers

Few things spark curiosity like a whisper. Surrounding conversations come to a halt when someone nearby starts whispering. A whisper commands attention. It is powerful.

A child's eyes light up when someone says "Come here, I have a secret to tell you." The expression on her face as she listens is sheer joy. A whisper is special.

The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
--1 Kings 19:11-12

For years, I've expected the Lord to show Himself big, bold and loud in my life. How will He get my attention otherwise?

He whispers.

In the quietness of the morning, He speaks sweet nothings to my heart. I snuggle in close, not wanting to miss a word.

This is what I have planned for you.

Here's where I want you to go.

This is truth.

You can depend on this promise.

He gives me instruction.

I want you to read Ezra.

EZRA?!

Yes, Ezra.
He was right.

He orders my days.

Pray for her.
This is important. That's not.

He makes me feel special.

I love you, dear one.

I anxiously await what He's going to saw next. He keeps me coming back for more.

For a little while each day, I intentionally drown out the noises around me and listen to the whispers. For in them, His message comes through loud and clear.

Wow, Melissa. This post gave me chills.

I'm always praying for direction, but how often do I turn off the noise and listen? How is he supposed to talk to me if I constantly have the car stereo blaring (even to the Christian channel), have the TV on, or am talking.

Ditto on the chills....

Your post goes right along with the study I've just started in Esther. God does not always operate through obvious miracles and fireworks.

Beth Moore quoted someone as saying, "Coincidence is a miracle where God chose to remain anonymous." How true is that, and how often do I miss what He's trying to tell me because I'm waiting for a clap of thunder or writing on the wall?

Thanks for the reminder, and I am going to put that scripture in my journal for memorization...just awesome!

What a wonderful post! Thank you, Melissa, for reminding me that I need to listen for the whispers. Like so many others, I almost drown in noise throughout the day. I will cherish the quiet to be able to better hear my Lord's whispers.
Bless you, sister!

Awesome post today, Melissa. I'm so glad God led me to your blog! Great Scripture, great thoughts... I'll be listening closer now. Give me ears to hear, Lord.

This is exactly how God speaks to me and I would suspect to most of us. I've learned to take that still, small voice quite seriously.
