I read SO many great words this week that it was hard to limit myself to only three quotes. However, I didn't want to try your endurance, so I'm cheating and putting one aside til next week. Here's what I couldn't resist:
To habitually prefer things temporal before things spiritual in the predominant acts of heart and life is the certain character of a graceless soul. He who deliberately prefers riches and beauty in another, before the image and fear of God, gives a very dangerous sign of a graceless heart and will. If you value beauty and riches more than godliness, you have the surest mark that you are ungodly; if you claim not to value them, then why do you prefer them? How could you do a thing that detects your ungodliness and condemns you more clearly? Does this not show that you either do not believe the Word of God, or else that you do not love God and regard his interest? Otherwise, you would take his friends as your friends and his enemies as your enemies. ~The Godly Home by Richard Baxter, as excerpted at Crossway
This book is most definitely going on my wishlist.
God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. - Exodus 2:25 (ESV, emphasis mine). This one blows me away because it reminds me that God sees my circumstances & He knows what I'm going through. He knows the pain, doubt & fear. He knows how hard this trail is, and He hasn't forgotten me. Praise His Name!
[The Christian woman] looks away from the troubles and miseries and obstacles of life that seem to make the future bleak, and she focuses her attention on the sovereign power and love of God who rules in heaven and does on earth whatever he pleases (Ps. 115:3). She knows her Bible, and she knows her theology of the sovereignty of God, and she knows his promise that he will be with her and will help her and strengthen her no matter what. This is the deep, unshakable root of Christian womanhood. ~John Piper, This Momentary Marriage, p. 97
John Piper's book is a must-read. I could say a lot more about it, and I have at 5 Minutes for Mom. Click on the link for a chance to win a copy of this amazing book...but not before you've left your specific link to your Week in Words post below!
(The link will be up until Friday at 5:00 p.m Eastern)

Oddly enough, every time I opened your blog, the FEb. 5 post was at the top. I finally scrolled down and saw The Week in Words post for this week, and when I entered my link, IT came to the top. Weird, huh?
I'm really enjoying doing this, Melissa! Thanks! I'm 3 for 3! :-)
Wow, that John Piper quote sets forth an ideal, doesn't it? I definitely don't measure up -- yet. :-)
Much food for thought there!
It was hard to put a limit on the quotes once I started keeping track of them.
I feel like I need to re-read Momentary Marriage - already! =) That was an awesome book and you've pulled an awesome quote from it.
Your quote regarding marriage makes me think of the series we are doing in our church on marriage. Perhaps the Lord is trying to talk to me? I am pretty thick about some things, so His way of getting my attention, I have noticed, is to keep bringing the subject up in many different venues.
Thank you for the great quotes!
Very thought provoking quotes. I put the marriage book on my wish list.
The scripture is timely for me, as well. Thanks for sharing with us what it means to you.
Thankfully, we CAN rest in His provision, can't we?
I really like the second quote. Reminding us that there is a higher power that we need to yield to instead of the earthly powers.
Thanks for the warm greeting Melissa! I have alot of catching up to do. I have missed you too!
Those are all powerful quotes, Melissa. I especially like the last one and want to locate that book.
